Music Video Inspiration: Your Song

"Your Song" Rita Ora

This video seems to be filmed normally but reversed in editing, you can tell in some parts more than others. For example the waves, when Rita Ora is walking on the table, the car in the traffic and the couple on the beach.
This technique is really interests me and I would love to attempt to recreate this technique in my own music video if possible, i.e. if it links to my chosen genre.

Music Video: Chosen Category

At first our group loved the idea of creating an abstract music video, however, that idea was dismissed when we found out we don't have the facilities to create an abstract music video. So we have been left with two options, either performance or narrative music videos. Based on these we have decided to do a NARRATIVE music video as we feel performance videos can get very boring and lose interest from the audience as they seem to drag on quite a bit. As a group we understand that narrative music videos can often take attention away from the lyrics of the song, so to prevent this the basis of the narrative will come very closely from the lyrics of the song.

Genre Research: Group Discussions

As a group we all like the idea of having an RnB genre as we like the songs and feel as though creating a music video would be fairly easy. However, having looked into past A Level students music videos we came to the conclusion that everyone pretty much did the same genres (i.e. indie, pop  and RnB) so in order for our video to stand out we need to think of a different genre that not many people will even think of. At first we looked into the Electronic and House genres of music, these videos were different engaging and looked quiet interesting to recreate. However, the more of these videos we watched the more it became quite clear these videos lacked a lot of lyrics. This is a problem for us because one of the criteria for our final Music Video is to have excellent use of lip synching, and without many lyrics we will not be able to achieve this. So  as a group we are still trying to decide what genre we want to use.

Prelim: Audience Feedback

In todays Media lesson we showed our Prelims to the class and received feedback, we asked them to give us a question along with what they liked about our prelim task. Below is an image of a few of the questions and what we did well in out Preliminary Task.

Music Video Inspiration: The Scientist

"The Scientist" - Coldplay

This video is similar to the Rita Ora song in my last post, however, here the reversal is much more obvious. You can tell this type of video is difficult to create because the actor has to sing the lyrics backwards so that when the video is reversed in editing the mouthing of the words match directly to the lyrics on the soundtrack. In this particular video the lip-synching is not always 100% accurate, with this in mind if I was going to recreate this technique in my own video it wouldn't before for the whole duration of the song/music video.

Prelim: Our Final Product

When Ellie edited the video footage of our prelim it was quick an easy, however, the problems arose when we tried to match the footage to the lyrics/soundtrack. Nevertheless, after much perseverance I managed to match them as close as possible. I also had a few problems when it came to matching the "Picture in Picture" to our video footage, but now it starts ever so slightly before our footage of Serine, however, I feel as though this is justifiable we want them to be able to see what we are going to attempt to recreate.
So below is our Preliminary Task to the song 1+1 by Beyonce.

Prelim: Filming

Today we filmed our prelim and I have to say it it took ages, Ellie spent a lot of time smothering Serine with olive oil so that she would glisten under there lights as Beyonce did in her video.

Music Video Inspiration: Send My Love

"Send My Love" - Adele

I love the music video to this song, the duplications are so simple yet effective. It is definitely something I would want to have in my own music video if it fits with the chosen song and genre.

Prelim: Choosing our Song

Our chosen song for our prelim is 1+1 by Beyonce

We have chosen this song as we feel the video is simple enough to recreate and still be fun at the same time. We have decided to go for something simple for our prelim because we know it is going to be hard enough editing the lip synching.

Music Video Inspiration: What If I Go

Mura Masa - What If I Go

My favourite thing about this music video is at 1minute 2seconds into the video, its like a moving picture effect.
This is definitely something I would like to replicate if possible in my music video.
