Magazine Advert: Possible Designs

I am currently deciding between two slightly different styles of my magazine advert the first one is not completed as I will still have to add reviews to it, however I wanted to see them side by side to enable me to decide which one I think is most suitable for my genre, target audience and specification.

Digipak: Track List

For the back of my digipak I needed to come up with additional song to go with the song that I'm producing a music video for. So below I've compiled the lists that will go on my digipak that I've come up with by taking inspiration from other jazz and soul love songs but also some classic r&b love songs as this album I feel is really about love and heartbreak.

1.I Put a Spell on You
2.If Only
3.Because You’re Mine
4.From the Soul
5.One More Time
6.Loving You
7.You and I
8.My One and Only
9.The Last Dance

10.Time After Time

Bonus Tracks:
1.A Man Not a Boy
2.Goodbye, again.
3.In Another Life

Ancillary Research: Back of Digipaks...

Below is an analysis of one of Rhianna's CD Digipaks, however I have only analysed the back as this is where I needed the most inspiration for my own Digipak.

Below is the back of Taylor Swifts Fearless CD, again I've only included the back as this is what I need a structure for. Ive also included the spine of the album to take inspiration.

Ancillary Research: Magazine Advert Analysis 2

Although this is a Jazz Magazine front cover I'm still using this as a form of inspiration when creating my own magazine advert. In terms of Colour palette, font styles and images.

Ancillary Research: Advert Conventions

CONVENTIONS of a Music Magazine Advert:

  • Artist Name
  • Release Date
  • Web Address
  • Product Content
  • Record Name and Logo
  • Tour Dates
  • Images
  • Outlets (i.e. apps, amazon....)
  • Offers
  • Reviews/Endorsements (NME, Q, TIMES)
I have listed the conventions of music magazine adverts for CD's above so that a have some sort of checklist/guide to go by when making my own Advert. I already know that I want to keep the advert quite minimalistic because I feel like that a minimalist approach works really well with the jazz genre. Therefore in my advert I may not use all these conventions as they may make the advert look too busy and also because they aren't all specific conventions of jazz adverts so they're not all applicable.

First Published Music Video

Despite there being a couple of things that I'm unhappy about in the editing of the music video so far, I decided to show the rest of my media class so that I can gain some very helpful feedback.
Below is the copy of the video that I showed to the class.

Evaluation: Questions

As part of the specification I need to evaluate and reflect on the creative process of creating my music video and ancillary tasks (Digipak and Magazine advert) and my experience of it. The questions that need to be addressed in my evaluation are:

  1. In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
  3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
  4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Ancillary Research: Production Company Name

When analysing previous Jazz DigiPak's I realised that they all features either the logo or name of the production company, somehow I had forgot about this aspect so today I came up with a Name and logo for my Music Production company. The name I decided on for the company is "Jazz for the Soul". I chose this name because I feel as though it is representative of the type of genre of music video my group and I tried to achieve. By this I mean that although the song is of a Jazz origin, I used the Annie Lennox version which had more of a beat so that I was able to achieve editing to the beat (part of the specification); therefore this more upbeat tune gives the song a slight Soul music twist and I kind of incorporated this into the music with the combination of Performance and Narrative. So bellow is the 'Logo' that I'll use in my digipak:

Music Video: Breaking the 4th Wall?

At the end of the music video Serine turns away from George and looks directly into the camera and sings "because you're mine".
Collectively we decided to this for a number of reasons. Firstly to establish to the audience that in-fact that the woman following George around with all these different girls is in fact Serine who is also the singer in the performance aspect. Secondly, its an explantation to the audience that no matter how many times George has gone off with numerous women he will always come back to Serine because he's hers; hence the line "because you're mine". Thirdly, I wanted a way to link the performance and narrative aspects of the music video together and I feel as though breaking the 4th wall in the narrative aspects links directly to the performance element tying it all together nicely for the the end.
