Chosen Song and Lyrics

After much deliberation our group has finally decided that our song is going to be the Annie Lennox version of "I Put a Spell on You" originally sung by Nina Simone. The Annie Lennox version has been featured in the first "Fifty Shades go Grey". At the moment we are planning on subverting the majority of the stereotypes of classic Jazz music video, however, we still want to incorporate elements of the classic jazz videos.

Typically classic jazz songs don't have music videos and if they do it is pretty much just the artist filmed at a live performance.

For our music video we want to do more of a modern take on classic jazz music, by using a dark berlesque vibe. In my research I have seen this done by a few artists but the one I feel could fit the most with our song/chosen genre is Beyonce. The main two music videos she uses this theme for is:

This is a great song that everyone knows, this video also doesn't have an original music video which means we can create one from our own ideas rather than being hooked on recreating the original music video. Again the lyrics to this video don't really have a story line which means we can use any angle to create a music video rather than being limited to the storyline of the song.

Comments:

I like the idea of using this song for our music video because the lyrics have a simple yet effective story line, which means it'll be easier to adapt to a narrative music video of our choice. Also there is no original music video to the song (only the video from film) which means we won't be tempted to copy the video, therefore, we'll be able to have an original music video.  

My Group

After summer a few of our peers have dropped the subject so there has been a change in groups. For AS I worked in a group alongside Ellie, Serine and George; however, for A2 I will only be working with Serine. Although working in a pair may mean more work we feel as though it will be easier to make group decisions as there is only two of us.

Genre Research: Final Decision

We have come to the conclusion that our chosen song genre is going to be Jazz, we haven't decided yet if we will be conforming to the stereotypical jazz music videos or subvert the stereotypes.
